OFFICIAL RULES – ANYTIME FITNESS® SUMMER OF STRENGTH

INSTAGRAM SWEEPSTAKES

These Official Rules for the Anytime Fitness® Summer of Strength Instagram sweepstakes (the “Sweepstakes”) are subject to change at any time at the sole discretion of Anytime Fitness, LLC (“Sponsor”). Void where prohibited.

Eligibility. To be eligible to win you must be at least 18 years old as of the date prizes are awarded and a legal resident of the United States.  To vote you must be at least 18 years old as of the date of voting and a legal resident of the United States or Canada.

Sponsorship. The sponsor is Anytime Fitness, LLC located at 111 Weir Drive, Woodbury, MN 55125.  Sponsor and its respective officers, directors, shareholders, and employees, including without limitation, the immediate family members of such individuals, are not eligible to participate.  Sponsor will conduct the Sweepstakes substantially as described in these Official Rules.

Sweepstakes & Voting Period.  This Sweepstakes period (“Sweepstakes Period”) begins on July 8, 2019 at 12:01 AM CST and ends on August 31, 2019 at 7:00 PM CST.  

How to Enter. During the Sweepstakes Period, to enter, entrants must submit a photo of themselves working out on Instagram tagged with the hashtag “#summerofstrength.” Entrant’s Instagram profile must be public in order to enter.  Limit one (1) entry per person per day.  Anyone creating duplicate or multiple accounts for the purpose of entering will be disqualified.Photos will be reviewed for relevance and content after submission and prior to posting. Sponsor reserves the right, but not the obligation, to reject or otherwise exclude any photo in the exercise of its sole discretion.  No purchase necessary to enter. 

One (1) winner each week will be chosen at random and one (1) prize will be awarded to each winner.  The prizes will each consist of a selection of Anytime Fitness branded apparel and/or items, chosen at Sponsor’s discretion.  Each prize has an equivalent cash value of no more than $75. Limit one prize per person. 

Sponsor’s decisions and interpretations on all matters relating to the Sweepstakes and these Official Rules are final and binding in all respects. 

Winner will be notified by direct message through Instagram. A Winner who fails to respond to Sponsor’s direct message within 72 hours may be disqualified.  Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or winner and may refuse to award a prize to a person who is not eligible, has violated a rule, or gained unfair advantage.  No other form of entry is valid.  Sponsor reserves the right, but not the obligation, to review any entry or vote for violation of the Official Rules and may, in its sole discretion, reject or otherwise exclude an entry or vote if deemed invalid or ineligible. 

Prize

Winner agrees to accept the prize “as is” and entrants hereby acknowledge that Sponsor is not, in any manner, responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee relative to the prize. Additional terms and conditions may apply and Sponsor shall not be responsible or liable in any way for any cancellations, losses or damages. 

Winner is solely responsible for any federal, state, and local taxes. Each prize is awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either express or implied, by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of equivalent value. 

Odds. The odds of winning will depend on the number of entries.

Winners Names.  The Winner’s name will be available only within sixty (60) days after the close of the Sweepstakes.  To receive the name of the Winner, where permitted by law, or a printed copy of the Official Rules, please contact Sponsor at meg.mcdougall@sebrands.com

APPLICABLE LAWS AND JURISDICTION. 

This Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.  Issues concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Rules shall be governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota without regard to any principles of conflict of laws.  All disputes arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes will be resolved individually, and without resort to class action, exclusively by a state or federal court located in Washington County, Minnesota. Chances are you’ve passed over the sandbags at your gym and I totally get it. If you haven’t used sandbags before, it can be difficult to understand how best you can incorporate them into your workout routine. I am here to change that! Sandbags are an awesome choice for improving both strength and coordination. Read on for all the info you need about how to use sandbags and why you should add them into your gym routine. 

When I think about what equipment I want to use with my clients I ask myself:

  • Is this an effective tool for developing strength and movement?
  • Does it meet my demands for functional training—meaning: does it improve the body’s ability to function efficiently on all planes and can I increase levels on complexity of time to stress the kinetic chain?
  • Do I have an understanding of how to use it and—more importantly—how to coach someone using it?

Sandbags are a great tool that hit on all my requirements. The sandbag, if used correctly, can increase inter-muscular coordination and encourages your body to reproduce correct movement patterns and form. Sandbags are particularly great for working on your holding position, body position, and planes of motion. 

Holds, Body Positioning, Planes of Motion and How They Work  

Holding position refers to how we progressively change how we hold the sandbag in efforts to change the stress applied to the body.  A barbell, for example, has four or five different positions while a sandbag has more than ten. When we change how we hold the sandbag, you exert more energy—making sandbags a fantastically efficient strength training tool.

Body positionrefers to how we stand when we lift the sandbag. Making slight changes to our body position can completely change how an exercise feels. Performing a clean in a staggered stance, for example, completely changes the exercise and how your body responds to it. 

Planes of motion are the dimensions in which our bodies move. There are three planes of motion: transverse, frontal and sagittal. Because we don’t move in a single dimension (it would be impossible!), we shouldn’t train that way. Introducing different ways to utilize your planes of motion works best by first resisting them with movements like shoulder squats, rotational lunges, and lateral drags like in DVRT Training.

What Do Sliders Do? 

Sliders, much like their name suggests, create slight instability that requires you to work harder to keep your balance and forces your whole body to stabilize you throughout the movement. When your body is working in overdrive to keep you upright, your muscles are firing on all cylinders, making an even greater impact on your workout than without. Think of a reverse lunge, they’re difficult—but you’re able to keep your balance fairly easily as you dip into the position. When you add a slider into the equation and glide back into the exercise, your core begins to power up to keep you aligned and your quads have to work even harder to get you back into standing position as you complete your lunge. Now imagine doing five sets of 10 reverse lunges with the gliders and you’ll have a good idea of how much of an impact those small, non-descript discs can make on a workout. 

How Can I Use Them? 

Sliders are awesome for many reasons, but their versatility is hard to beat. Because they can be used to modify traditional exercises—you can incorporate them into a myriad of workouts. Upper body, lower body, core—sliders can be used to strengthen every area of your body without strenuous impact as you glide rather than connect with the ground. They are a great addition for anybody no matter their fitness level.

Try 10 repetitions of the below circuit. Complete 2-3 rounds at your own pace with nothing but a set of sliders and medicine ball.

Tips for Working Out With the Plyo Box

  • While leveling up your plyo workout, try staggering your hand placement and alternate positions on a push-up.
  • Elevate your feet to change the difficulty on exercises like planks, rows or split squats.
  • Jumps are fun, and explosive step ups are too! Boxes are a useful tool that will get your heart rate up quick!
  • Use your full foot when stepping onto a box and push through your heel.
  • Try subbing a box for most bench movements.
